Five Days to Go!

I can't believe I'm leaving on Friday! I received my assignment for the trip and learned I definitely will be teaching in a primary school (kindergarten through junior high). The name of the school is Musama Basic School and it has roughly 332 students. The classrooms are open, so they said to be prepared to hear noise from the other rooms. I guess I might have to muffle my laugh a bit since there aren't any doors to close. :) I won't know the exact age group I'm teaching until I begin.

I'm adding a picture taken by a previous volunteer so you can see what a typical classroom looks like.

Hey Emily,

WOW! I am so proud to work with such an awesome woman...I can't wait to hear all about your trip and I will read your blog...you know how glued to my computer I am, it may as well be a phone. Be safe, have fun. OH and by the way, we both know doors don't block your awesome laugh. I am sure your laugh will bring as many smiles to the people of Africa as it does to me! Love Laura

Oh good, Em. I heard you arrived safe and sound. Hope you got some sleep on the plane and in a comfy bed. I'll bet you have some cereal stashed in your bags! Grandma Mame said she'd send some applesauce...LOL.

Glad you'll be teaching since that is one of the best gifts you give and share.
So looking forward to your reports here. A friend of mine, Tomas, was in the Peace Corps there and loved the people. I know they will love you too!
Love,
Jenta

I can't wait to hear all about Africa and how it compares to Chicago's North Shore. Remember to pack some of your animal print clothes - you'll need to fit in there. I think I remember some leggings that will work perfectly...

Have a blast and write lots!
Love, Jessica (and Ethan, Bax and Daisy)
